Bangalore’s Namma Metro is the second longest operational metro network in India after Delhi Metro and it currently serves around 41 stations spanning 42.3 km. The second phase of the project, slated to be completed in 2021, will add 61 more stations to the network spanning a length of 72.095 km. Once the construction of the Phase2 is completed it will have the following extensions to the existing lines as part of the Phase 2 A – Mysuru Road-Kengeri, Yelachenahalli-Anjanapura Township, Baiyappanahalli-Whitefield, Nagasandra-BIEC. It also includes the extension work on two new lines i.e. RV Road Bommasandra and Gottigere – Nagawara – Bangalore Airport.
The second phase was planned, considering the areas where traffic jams are frequent and connectivity issues are prevalent. This ambitious project not only gives regular travellers hope but also makes investing in Bangalore an option worth considering.
Purple line Metro – The Baiyappanahalli-Whitefield Route
Whitefield, the upscale enclave of IT hubs and residences, will see a surge in the demand for residences with the upcoming metro station right at its doorsteps. The east-end of the Purple Line will be extended from Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield and the west-end from Mysore Road to Kengeri. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) responsible for the Namma Metro project is positive that the move will make a substantial impact on Bangalore’s traffic conditions.
Once Phase 2 is rolled out, the residents of Whitefield will be able to travel freely across the city without worrying about time constraints and traffic blocks. The realty market also has seen a significant increase in the demand for residential areas near Whitefield after the Phase 2 announcement. In 2016, Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah announced Phase 2 A, an additional 17 km long line from Silk Board to K.R. Puram.
